HEARTBREAK AS BLUES LOSE SEMI
Chester’s dreams of a return to the National League were ended as they were beaten 1-0 by Brackley Town in their play-off semi final at Deva Stadium in front of a crowd of 4,479 on Sunday. There were few chances throughout the game, with only goal coming ten minutes from time through a long range effort from defender George Carline. Brackley will now host Kidderminster Harriers, who won their semi 4-1 at King’s Lynn Town, in the play-off final next Sunday.

The end of the game was marred by unforgivable crowd scenes as around 100 people crossed the pitch to attack Brackley supporters in their corner of the ground, with several people injured, before order was eventually restored by the police and stewards.

CLUB STATEMENT
Following on from the crowd trouble on Sunday, the club yesterday issued the following statement:

“Chester Football Club is appalled at the violence and criminal damage caused at the end of our National League North play-off semi-final with Brackley Town on Sunday.

We utterly condemn the actions of those responsible and apologise to Brackley Town and supporters of both clubs.

Our Club is ashamed to be associated with anyone involved in the crowd disorder and angry that the actions of a minority have completely overshadowed the occasion.

Such behaviour not only tarnishes our reputation, but also has a financial cost and places the football club at risk of fines, points deductions or playing behind closed doors. The impact is also felt by our staff, volunteers, and the players and management, who were prevented from returning to the pitch to thank our genuine fans for their support this season.

We have extensive CCTV footage which will be shared with the authorities and will work with Cheshire Police to ensure the perpetrators are identified and face the strongest action.

Anyone with any information should contact Cheshire Police on 101, or visit www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us, quoting IML 1539302.”

SEMI FINAL SOLD OUT
All 4,000 home tickets for Sunday’s play-off semi final against Brackley Town have sold out. The club are currently looking into being able to release more tickets for the match which will kick-off at Deva Stadium at 15.30hrs. Should the club be able to release more tickets then they will publish details on their website and via Twitter.

The Saints secured their trip to the Deva with a dramatic 5-3 penalty shoot-out win over Gloucester City last night after their eliminator match had ended 2-2 after extra time. The other semi final on Sunday will see King’s Lynn Town host Kidderminster Harriers (12.30hrs) after Harriers secured a 1-0 victory over Alfreton Town in their eliminator match on Tuesday night.
