TROPHY KNOCKOUT
Chester were dumped out of the FA Trophy 2-0 by
Southport in last night's replay. Both goals came
in a four minute spell in the second half. The Blues
have now gone five games without a win and four
without scoring a goal. Joint manager Bernard Morley
said after the defeat: “I wouldn’t say
it concerns me, it disappoints me, we have got to
find a way to win on Saturday. Are we under a massive
amount of pressure? No. I don’t think we are.
I think the good run that we went on five or six
games ago is gone now.”

YOUTH RUN COMES TO AN END
The Youth Team were beaten 2-0 at Mansfield Town
last night in the second round of the FA Youth Cup.
The young Blues had already beaten Sandbach United,
Marine, Wrexham, Hartlepool United and Barnsley
in the competition this season but finally bowed
out after conceding two second half goals at Mansfield.
Academy coach Calum McIntyre said following the
defeat: “I don’t think it will sink
in and I don’t think it has sunk it with the
lads what they have achieved. They will reflect
on some incredible memories and incredible circumstances
to have achieved what they have achieved. I think
they will look back with real pride, and I do of
them.”
“We had a spell in the first half where we
were on top. There was probably a ten minute spell
in the second half where I thought we were the better
team but massive credit to Mansfield. I thought
they set up very well and paid us real respect with
the way they set up.”
“I think they deserved the win, they took
their chances and they managed the game really well.
From me, my players and our football club a massive
congratulations to Mansfield Town and I wish them
all the best at Bournemouth in the next round.”

LATE DEFEAT FOR BLUES
Chester were beaten 1-0 on their first visit to
Leamington on Saturday. The only goal of the game
came eight minutes form time as Cody Bishop forced
the ball home from close range. The Blues will rue
a number of missed chances, including a Simon Grand
header that hit the bar and a Steve Howson effort
blazed over the bar from six yards out during a
game in which both sides deserved a point.
Joint manager Bernard Morley said: “It’s
hard enough to come and get a result as it is, but
when you’re gifted the opportunities that
we were today, you’ve got to take them.”
“They’ve had one or two chances themselves,
but in terms of clear cut ones, you’ve got
to take them chances if you want to be at the top
end of the league and they come back to bite you
eventually.”
Chester take a break from league action on Saturday
when they travel to Southport for an FA Trophy Third
Qualifying Round match, kick-off 15.00hrs. The Sandgrounders
have hit some form of later with a fine home win
in the FA Cup over Conference National side Boreham
Wood as well as away league wins over Hereford and
Boston United.

CHESTER HANG ON
A 3-2 home win has seen Chester move up to fifth
place in the table just a point behind leaders Chorley.
Two goals in quick succession through Danny Livesey
and Anthony Dudley gave the Blues a 2-0 half-time
lead. Another wonder strike from Dan Mooney increased
the lead four minutes into the second period. However
Borough fought back though goals from Carl Baker
and Adam McGurk and the Blues were left to hang
on for an uncomfortable final few minutes before
the final whistle.

WONDER GOALS SECURE VITAL
POINT
Two
stunning goals from Dan Mooney rescued a point for
Chester who came back twice to draw 2-2 at Brackley
Town on Saturday. The home side had the better chances
throughout the game at a windy St James Park and
opened the scoring five minutes into the second
half with Connor Franklin scoring from close range
after Grant Shenton had pulled off a fine save to
deny Lee Ndlovu.
Chester drew level on 58 minutes with Mooney lashing
home a 25 yard volley from the left that took a
slight deflection giving Danny Lewis no chance in
the home goal. It was a great strike but Chester
switched off and sixty seconds later Brackley took
the lead as the Blues failed to close down and deal
with a cross from the right and Shane Byrne scored
past Shenton.
It looked like the Blues were going to suffer their
third league defeat of the season as the game entered
stoppage time when a long ball from Shenton into
the box found its way to Mooney out on the right
who swiveled and send a dipping 25 yard volley over
Lewis and under the bar to send the Blues fans wild
behind the goal.
Joint manager Bernard Morley said after the draw:
“I said it last Saturday and I can’t
keep saying it, like we’ve just said to the
lads – we were poor, we were really poor.
It’s as poor
as we’ve been all season and I said the same
at Alfreton, but we found a way to get back in the
game. The lads have found a way to do it. I think
we were brave with our substitutions in terms of
the formation, we went three at the back and three
up top.”“Again,
we’ve been rewarded for that, but the lads
know that they weren’t at the races today
and no matter how we prepare for games, it just
shows you that it’s on the day. We’ve
got to take something out of that and we’ve
got to take a little bit of self belief as a team
as well. Try things and you get rewarded like Dan
Mooney’s done today.”

VICTORY FOR YOUTH TEAM
Chester’s Youth Team are through to the second
round of the FA Youth Cup following a superb 2-1
home victory over Barnsley last night. The young
Blues came from behind with goals from Will Goodwin
and Cain Noble to beat The Tykes and book an away
tie at Mansfield Town in the next round on Wednesday
21 November.
Academy head coach Calum McIntyre said: “That’s
an incredible result. Against all the odds, it must
be up there with one of the biggest upsets this
competition has ever had and for us to have done
it the way we did it, I thought we were decent value
for it to be honest.” “We
played in a certain way, so this is the single
most incredible feeling ever and it’s amazing.
The players deserve this.”
“The run that they’re
on. I’m going to check with the historian
because he knows more about history than me, and
it’s certainly since the club reformed the
most wins in an FA Youth Cup season.”
“To win five games and to knock out the teams
we’ve knocked out and be in the second round
of the FA Youth Cup is incredible and these players
deserve all the plaudits. Stunned might be the wrong
word, but I’m not surprised, I’m in
absolute awe of them, they’re heroes.”
REPRIEVE FOR HOWSON
Defender Steve Howson has had his red card against
Alfreton Town rescinded following an appeal. He
will now be available for the away game at Brackley
Town.
