A LONG TIME COMING
You’d think that if an investor put ten grand into Chester City the board would be only too pleased. That sadly is not the experience of the ISA. Back in 2001 the incredible support of our members enabled us to buy £10,000 in shares, asking nothing in return except that we should be issued with a routine share certificate to formalise our investment. It took the board until September 2006, nearly five whole years, to produce the certificate, and only after endless requests, phone calls and visits by our vice-chair Peter Mitchell. Seems a strange way of showing gratitude to supporters who put their money where their mouth is.

A QUESTION OF FOOTBALL
We are planning a night of mayhem and fun at the Saunders Honda Stadium by staging an entertainment night based (very loosely) on TV’s Question of Sport and They Think It’s All Over. At the time of posting (Nov 2006) we’re still talking to the club about a date but we hope it will be before Christmas. Top names from the club will be taking part so watch for further details in the media and on our website.

WIDNES COULD BE DANGEROUS DISTRACTION
Chester City ISA urged club chairman Stephen Vaughan not to take his eye off the ball at the Saunders Honda Stadium, after his takeover at Widnes Vikings RLFC.

An ISA statement recognised Mr Vaughan’s right to get involved with other sports but at this critical time in our fortunes urged him to focus on the round-shaped ball.

The statement continued: “Despite the excellent result at Boston (29.3.06) we are fighting for our lives as a Football League team and the last thing we need is any external distraction. We hope that Mr Vaughan’s takeover will not revive proposals to relocate CCFC to Widnes. The ISA understands that Football League regulations will not permit any further relocations on the lines of Wimbledon’s move to Milton Keynes and any plan to move CCFC to Widnes or anywhere else outside the city will be totally resisted. We note with interest the chairman’s statement this week that “the two clubs will complement each other” and that he will ensure that “both get the resources to progress together.” We look forward to hearing details as to how this will benefit our football club.

FANS RALLY BEHIND THE TEAM
Chester City Independent Supporters Association pledged to lead fans’ backing of the team as the season reaches a critical phase. Speaking after the ISA’s annual general meeting on March 20 2006 chairman George Rogers said: “It’s vital that all supporters get behind the players between now and the end of the season. We recognise that fans have the right to feel disappointed by what has gone on since December. But in the long-term interests of the club the most important thing is to support the team in their efforts to avoid relegation.”

The ISA, which ran a “Great Escape” campaign the last time City were in a relegation fight, has inaugurated a “Mission Impossible” campaign this time – with the significant postscript: “We can do it!”
