Not A Bad Week For City

It hasn't been a bad week for City fans. Starting with the satisfying FA Cup win at Stalybridge, it was followed 24hrs later with the news of a home tie versus Manchester City. Surely a just reward for the faithful two thousand. With another home performance to match previous displays against higher opposition of the likes of Port Vale and Aston Villa, it should make for a tie to be savoured. Given the statutory 15% ticket allocation to away fans, there is no reason why any City (ie Chester) fan should not be able to get behind the lads. If, heaven forbid, we don't sell out, I'm sure that City (ie Manchester) can take up the slack in the West Stand.

The attendance at the ISA members meeting on Monday was not especially large but what was lacking in numbers was certainly made up for by the quality of discussion and debate. Although Brian Croft failed a late fitness test and was unable to attend, around seventy members found ISA director, Paul Murray, to be a more than adequate substitute. Paul was willing to answer questions about his role at the Club and to relate some of his experiences so far. His forthrightness was much appreciated by the members.

Kevin Whitehouse and Mickey Clifford were voted onto the committee to replace Glyn Pool and Mark Howell, who have stepped down through pressure of work. Both are continuing to work for the ISA, although unable to attend meetings regularly. Space does not permit the gratitude we owe Mark for leading the fight to survive. After some three hours discussions, it was clear that the progress in off field activities and financial control was much appreciated, whilst there was general concern over the playing side. The members voted that a further meeting be held on Dec 13th, venue to be arranged.

Tuesday's match was notable for two things, apart from a battling performance. We had a clean sheet (sadly at both ends) and we did not attract the lowest crowd of the night. Now this might not seem much, but when you have less points than any other team, almost two thousand fans on a wet Tuesday night against Southend means someone has been busy somewhere. Extra bodies in the West stand was a result of the Club's combined efforts in both attracting sponsorship and reaching out to schools, including players and Terry Smith helping with reading. This is a promise being kept and is to be applauded.

The Golden Eagle in Castle Street is to be a Blues fans' pub. Landlords Phil and Diane Over are looking for memorabilia to decorate their hostelry (and fans to drink their beer). If you can help, either let us know or contact the Eagle on 01244 325523.

Chester Ladies who are jointly sponsored by the ISA and Olympic trophies are playing a first round divisional cup tie vs Trafford, one of the league's top teams, at the Deva Stadium on Sunday, kick-off 2 o'clock.

The draw for the ISA sponsorship of the Halifax game is to be made at half time at Saturday's game. Any late draw tickets should be handed in at the Club shop prior to the game.

If you have any points to make, please write in. All correspondence will be dealt with. Alternatively, if you are able to attend, you can have your say at the monthly members meetings.
