Time To Shout And Listen

Football is a game of emotions, particularly so during the course of a match, where the events on the pitch are reflected by the reaction of the crowd. This is not necessarily a one way process as the noise of the crowd can also influence the efforts and performance of the players. Sometimes we are driven by emotion and feel a need to speak out. Other times there is a need to simply listen and to take stock.

Unless a club has a major benefactor, losing money can be viewed as just as critical as losing matches. At Monday's ISA meeting, we listened and learned some things about the business side of the club. Dan Brooks (CCFC commercial director) described the progress made in financial control, marketing, promotional and commercial activities: that ISA members are playing important roles: that fans' forums are scheduled, which will enable supporters to hear first hand about the many aspects of running a football club, from both business and playing perspectives. And don't forget Sunday's open day!! This is all welcome news.

Also on the financial side, we listened as the members debated aspects of the protracted negotiations concerning the share offer. As a committee, we took their instruction, arrived at by democratic and constitutional means, to work constructively with the Club towards a satisfactory conclusion, which will be reported to all share applicants in due course. We firmly believe that a substantial supporter shareholding is of both short and long-term value, giving us meaningful representation at boardroom level. We thank the members for their attendance, their attention and their guidance throughout the meeting.

Some points in the current ISA constitution are worth highlighting:- to provide an organised and independent voice for supporters of Chester City FC: members shall behave in a responsible and civilised manner at all times: members shall be entitled to propose or second resolutions at general meetings. Although it is unwritten, we endeavour to work for the general good of Chester City FC and will continue to do so.

The importance of the FA Cup tie at Whyteleafe cannot be underestimated. This is quickly followed by a trip to the not so Gay for us usually Meadow for a proverbial 6 pointer. Best wishes to everyone for successful outcomes.

If you have any points to make, please write in. All correspondence will be dealt with. Alternatively, if you are able to attend, you can have your say at the monthly members meetings.
