Chronicle Article 17 November 2000

FA cup action returns to the Deva Stadium this weekend with opponents Plymouth Argyle having the dubious honour of being the first football league side to play a competitive match at the ground since that fateful day back in May.

Chester's history in the F.A Cup has not exactly been filled with glory, a couple of trips to the Fifth Round have been the pinnacle of their achievements, but on a personnel note as a young boy of 7 travelling with my Father and Uncle to the great Manchester United in 1965 was and still is one of my most treasured moments.

The ISA backed Chester City Trust Fund are finalising details for their launch which will take place on Thursday 30th November at The Town Hall Starting at 7.30pm.

The Trust has captured the imagination of many people and has the support of Chris Smith MP, the Culture Minister (who will shortly be meeting with the Trust), Chester City Council, the FA, numerous well-known former players and a number of premiership and league clubs. As well as setting out the details of how the Trust will operate, there will be speeches from various organisations supporting the project including Supporters Direct and the City Council together with players from Five decades of footballing history in this City. It promises to be a night to celebrate Chester City FC and its past, but most importantly, its future.

I urge all ISA members and all Chester City Supporters to be there and be a part of it. The ISA Committee has decided because of the close proximity of the launch date to the 27th November Members Meeting we will cancel the aforementioned Members Meeting and ask all our members to join us at the Town Hall.

All members of the ISA Committee and I am sure all members of the ISA were saddened this week to learn of the resignation from the committee of our Press Officer Les Smith, Les has been a tireless worker for the ISA and his presence and his good humour on the committee will be greatly missed.

Kevin Whitehouse chairman
