Chronicle Article 22 September 2000

When writing the column on a Wednesday, it is often a challenge to be topical and meaningful by the time the Chronicle goes on sale. With the Conference decision on last week's postponement awaited and other associated matters still pending, any further comment would be inappropriate at this stage. For the good of the Club, we all must wait and see what transpires and take it from there.

On the football side, a return to Crewe for the Cheshire Senior Cup showed the massive progress made on the Gresty Road stadium since they were promoted with us in Graham Barrow's last spell. Driving past the training complex at Reasheath only emphasised the opposite directions in which the two clubs have moved in such a relatively short time. The defeat by a mixture of their reserves and youth was a disappointment but both sides tried to play football throughout, and in reality, they failed to take several good chances. Nevertheless, 120 minutes watching the Blues (playing in white) for £3 (£1 concessions) was pretty good value.

The ISA Chairman's target to extend the social activities has been put into practice quickly by the Social Secretary and the impressively titled Events Co-ordinators. Through much hard work, a varied programme of Social Events is taking shape.

Next week sees the monthly Members Meeting on Monday Sept 25th at the Royal Mail Club when local Chester City FC reporter Nick Harrison is the Guest Speaker. Members will have the usual opportunity to question both guest and the committee. These meetings are a not just a platform for the committee to report but to positively encourage the exchange of ideas and views with the membership regarding Chester City and the role of their Association. There will be news on the progress of the Supporters Trust initiative, which stemmed from a previous meeting, and involves representatives from all supporters groups.

Monday Oct 2nd sees the first ISA Quiz Night at the Cross Keys, Lower Bridge Street, when teams of five (max) will wrack their collective brains for the glory of winning. Paltry prizes may be on offer as well. All supporters are welcome. Kick off 8pm.

A Sportspersons Evening, complete with hot pot supper, is planned for Friday 10th Nov at the Royal Mail Club. In accordance with our philosophy, the whole evening will be politically correct, starting with the title of the event. Two well-known sporting personalities have been lined up together with a comedian. More details will follow. Dates for the members Christmas "Do"and the Childrens Christmas Party have been fixed for Dec 15th and Dec 3rd respectively.

The write-in competition for stand tickets was won by Barry Lovell of Mancot. Because the game was called off the tickets will be transferred to another fixture. Chester's record goal scorer was of course Stuart Rimmer. Further competitions will follow.
